Day 4 of Dias de Los Muertos - Honoring Our Ancestors

October 30 is the fourth Day of Dias de los Muertos.

This is the day of festivities that honor our Ancestors! Today’s celebration of this beautiful Mexican holiday is the day that families welcome back the souls of their deceased relatives for a reunion. Be sure to put out flowers, photos of ancestors, talismans, food and water for their journey.

Honoring your ancestors is actually a supportive aspect of holistic grieving. The science of Epigenetics has shown that trauma and grief live in our DNA and can be passed down just like eye color and musical ability. Honoring our Ancestors by learning and telling their stories, honoring their strengths, and their challenges, reminds us that challenges [and loss] are part of the human experience; and helps us understand that our struggles, our tenacity, our resilience, our good traits and our challenges, have roots and can be carried on or healed.

Remember to watch the Disney Pixar movie “Coco”; a sweet story of honoring our Ancestors and families; past and present, and celebrating all the gifts we enjoy from those that came before us, with understanding, gratitude, and love.
